9 Reasons Why It Is Not Too Late To Start A Blog

1. You Can Still Shoot Your Shot Despite The Thousands Of Blogs Out There

is it too late to start a blog reasons why you should start a blog

I think this is the issue with any venture out there, the concern of there being too many of it already, so how will yours be any different?

There are roughly 600 million blogs out of 1.7 billion websites, and the estimated blogs in the US are 31.7 million. These large numbers are enough to instill fear in the minds of any aspiring bloggers.

The thing that differentiates your potential blog from the rest is that you are aiming to provide quality content.

Not all 31.7 million blogs are professional and quality blogs.

Some of them may be blogs set up by teens for a “Dear diary” experience, which can not be monetized.

Your blog will offer your unique standpoint of a niche because you already know that not all blogs out there are about the same niche. So you have the opportunity to provide your insights and your skills that no one else will have.

If you are going to use this as an excuse to not start a blog, remember, no one will start another clothing line because there are too many clothing brands out there, or no one will ever write another book because there are too many books out there.

You will always have something to offer, so stop wondering is it too late to start a blog.

2. People Are Getting Connected With the Internet

Do you want to take a guess of how many hours a person spends on the internet a day?

An average user spends 6 hours and 58 minutes connected to technology and the internet. That presents a lot of opportunities for someone to stumble upon your blog.

People are constantly getting connected on the internet, be it to scroll through socials, to learn something, or to seek answers.

Your blog may be the site they turn to!

You know that your readers are somewhere among the 4.95 billion daily internet users.

3. Blogging Is An Excellent Business Model

is it too late to start a blog excellent business model

If you are wondering how to maintain a blog or if it will bring you money, I am going to stop you right there.

It is not uncommon for someone to not consider blogging as a business model, I mean even for myself when I started blogging, it never occurred to me what an excellent business model blogging would turn out to be.

When we talk about a traditional business model, say opening up a cafe because let’s face it, there is a huge number of cafes nowadays for us to choose from, there are a number of key factors that have to be taken into consideration before starting.

You have to think about:

  •  renting space,
  • the affordability of that rent,
  •  the location chosen,
  • Hiring and paying staff
  • the inventory you need to stock up,
  • the menu to be crafted, and
  • the aesthetic of the cafe.

These are just the factors off the top of my head and I am certain that a cafe owner will tell you that there are plenty more.

It is a risky business that costs a lot of money, effort, and time, and even then you can not be too sure it will pay off. We have seen many cafes shut down due to the lack of business over the past few years.

However, when it comes to blogging, the cost that you will incur is your domain hosting and …. Well, that’s it!

Take it from someone who runs 5 monetized blogs, – you can REALLY cut your costs down at the beginning and only pay for hosting.

You can upgrade and spend more once the blog starts earning you money (like I did )

If you have a good computer and a reliable internet connection, you can set it up from anywhere in the world!

Yes, it still takes up your effort and time, but if you are comparing it to starting a cafe, it is significantly less.

You’ll laugh at yourself for questioning ” is it too late to start a blog”.

4. Help Is Always Needed Online

We all turn to the internet for help. It could be about the most random thing on earth but we still get on to our preferred search engine and type it out.

Why can’t readers turn to your blog?

If your blog is about fashion and you have written about a post on a capsule wardrobe.

When someone searches on how to start a capsule wardrobe, your blog post might be the one that gives them the solution they need.

This goes to any other niche blog out there.

Your blog is about food? Great, so when someone searches for how to make chicken noodle soup, there is a high chance of them stumbling into your blog!

5. The Most Significant And Successful Content Are Still Blog Articles.

significant and successful content

Blogs are still one of the most powerful and beneficial resources out there.

Here are some very impressive statistics about blog content that I think might stop your mind from wondering is it too late to start a blog:

  • 50% of the top 200 Fortune 500 companies had a corporate blog.
  • In 2018, Huffington’s Post blog earned USD 14 million in monthly revenue
  • Businesses that blog generate 67% more leads per month on average when compared to those who do not have a blog.
  • Blogging is the third most sought-after content marketing strategy.
  • Businesses that blog get 55% more visitors to their site compared to businesses that do not.

Do you see how blogging still helps people? Blog articles are still precious content, and businesses still swear by them, so stop second-guessing yourself and start your blog.

How Do I Start Blogging?

how to start blogging

Now, there is a detailed post on how to start a blog on my site where you can get all the juicy tips but since you are all excited after reading all the reasons why it is not too late to start a blog, let me give you a quick summary!

1. Establish A Niche

A niche is a topic your blog will revolve around.

Is it parenting tips, home decor, a food blog, a fashion blog, or a lifestyle blog?

A niche will be the subject of your writing and it should be distinct, specialized, and well defined. Once a reader stumbles upon your blog, they should know what it is about.

Niche down.

Be as specific as possible about the content you are planning to generate on your blog.

Having a specific niche will make it easier for visitors and search engines to comprehend what your blog is about, as well as for you to generate consistent and cohesive material.

But Aisha, I know about all these things, why can’t I write about them all? (you may ask)

Okay, let me ask you this.

If you were to stumble upon a blog post about the best ways to alleviate toothache and find out that there are other blog posts on the site that is about the best baking utensils to use, or the things you should know about picking out the perfect rug for your living room, how likely are you to trust that article?

As opposed to finding a blog set up by a professional and credible dentist whose blog is all things teeth related?

Would you not be inclined to trust the advice of the dentist?

The same goes for picking out a niche and sticking to it.

When you show your authority on one topic, your audience will probably think “Hey, she knows what she’s talking about, let’s browse through more of her work”.

Do you see what I mean?

Okay, here comes the next question. “But Aisha, how do I pick a niche?”

You can use these ways to identify your blogging niche:

  • Write down your passions and interests
  • What are the problems you can solve?
  • What are your skills?
  • Identify the current market trend of a niche using Google Trends
  • Find out if there is search demand for topics using SEO tools

By obtaining the answers to these questions, you are one step closer to finding your niche.

2. Choose A Name For Your Blog

Choosing a name for your blog does not have to be a daunting task. Let me break it down for you with these few factors to consider when choosing a blog.

  • Use Your Own Name

There are plenty of bloggers who use their own names to name their blogs.

Take Marion Grasby for example. She competed in Masterchef Australia in 2010 and went on to start a successful blog and youtube channel. Her food blog Marion’s Kitchen features delicious recipes and products that you can purchase.

She created a brand of herself and you can do the same!

  • Relate Them To Your Niche

Okay what I mean by this is, say your niche is travel, there are a bunch of words that you can use to come up with your blog name. Use words like wanderlust, voyage, traveler, and many more to come up with a blog name!

Find words that are related to your niche, be it about lifestyle, parenting, sports, anything – list them down and you will have a blog name!

In hopes of lighting up the spark of creativity in you, here are some blogging names options for different blogging niches for you to check out:

  • Blog Name Generators

Simply input your blog niche, and you will have multiple blog names generated for you. You do not have to do the thinking and all that fluff.

Here are some free blog name generators for you to choose from:

3. Get Hosting Done For Your Blog

get hosting for your blog

You see other bloggers go on and on about hosting, but what exactly is it?

I have always explained hosting like this – your blog’s hosting is where your website will live.

Assume your blog is a home that requires some land to be constructed on.

Your website’s patch of land is called hosting. It is completely yours, and no one can take it away from you since you paid for it and because you own your blog, you can monetize it with advertisements.

I always recommend Bluehost because they are the best for beginners.

You can read a thorough guide on how to start a blog today and you will find all the details on how to get on with your hosting.

4. Install WordPress

install wordpress

Any blogger will know the existence of WordPress. The nicest thing about WordPress is that it is simple to use and versatile enough to create a variety of websites.

WordPress is a free program, they also have a premium subscription but if you are starting, the free version works fine. With WordPress, you customize your blog as you see fit.

Here are some great resources on how to start a blog on WordPress that you may find useful!

5. Get Yourself A Decent Theme

get yourself a theme blogging

Now, I know you are going to get excited when it comes to themes because I know I did.

I spent a week trying to make my site look amazing with this new fancy theme I bought, and let me tell you, it did not look amazing.

Instead of wasting time trying to create a perfect site as I did, simply pick a decent theme, hire someone to do it from Upwork Or Fiverr and you are good to go!

People will come to your blog to read your content and not to admire the different shades of green that exist perfectly on your home page.

Some lightweight fast themes that I recommend are:

6. Create A Logo To Represent Your Brand

create a logo to represent your brand

Having a logo is important to represent who you are and what your blog is about. However, please do not spend hours on end deciding on the perfect colors, shapes, or sizes.

Ask yourself this, how many times have you visited a blog because their logo was pretty? Not many right? So, logos are important, but to save you time, simply hop on to Canva, choose one of the many free templates and you are good to go!

FAQs

Things To Know Before I Start A Blog?

Here is the gist of things you need to know before starting a blog

  • Have a plan
  • Decide on what your blog will be
  • Research your competition
  • Pick a blogging platform
  • Decide how often you will be publishing

Creating a successful blog is not all about the work-from-home life, sipping on your favorite Starbucks morning latte, going for your spin class, and then opening up your laptop at 12 pm to start working on your blog.

Well, it can be like that BUT it will not be like that in the beginning.

If you are serious about taking your blog to the next level, building a business out of it, you will be surprised at how many hours you have to log in to ensure everything is running smoothly.

If you are anything like me and technology is your enemy, you will find yourself starring at the wall, counting the number of cobwebs in your ceiling because you have no idea what the next step is.

When all things seem hazy and uncertain, I am here to tell you that from personal experience, it is a rewarding experience in the end.

So, instead of wondering is it too late to start a blog , here are some key things to know before starting a blog.

1. Have A Plan

Yes, I know. Cliché advise, but it is true. Having a plan is essential to any new venture. It is the same for blogging.

Having a vision and an end goal for your blog helps to determine the course of your blogging journey.

Why are you starting this blog? Is it to venture into your passion? Is it to help others? Is it to make money?

Whatever the reasons may be, write it down, and be clear of it.

This comes in handy when you are figuring out the definition of particular goals for your blog, such as the number of posts published, the number of monthly visitors, and the amount of income generated.

2. Decide On What Your Blog Will Be About

This tip is similar to having a niche, you need to decide the topic your blog will be centered around. You can not have a blog that covers all topics under the sun – pet care, beauty, gardening, home decor, no no no.

Pick one.

Similar to the specialist concept I mentioned above, your blog readers will likely trust you if you have built credibility around one topic. It shows them that you know what you are talking about, deeming you as an expert in that topic.

3. Research Your Competitors

Now that you have decided on your niche and what your blog will be about, time to take a look at all the successful bloggers that are blogging within the niche that you are and learn from them.

Mind you, it is never okay to copy another blogger, but being inspired and learning and implementing what works, is a great way to get started. This is especially crucial if you do not read many blogs at the moment.

You should obtain a sense of the blogging style used in that sector.

Besides, in order for your blog to succeed, it should stand out. So, brainstorm and think about the unique standpoints you can take that are different from the existing bloggers in your niche.

How can you stand out? What is unique about your blog?

Keep in mind that you should not feel discouraged when reading blogs that are successful in your niche. Their success was not built overnight, just like you. It took years of publishing good quality content and you can do the same!

4. Pick A Blogging Platform, Hosting, And Theme

Three key aspects to your blog could use some of your time in research.

A blogging platform are sites like WordPress, Blogger, and Squarespace.

I personally use WordPress and recommend them. This is the platform where your blog sits, meaning all the readers will have to view your blog from these sites.

Hosting for your blogging is important and Bluehost is my number one recommendation till today ,as it is perfect for beginners.

Their price is competitive and you save up to USD15 right away when you sign up AND you receive a free domain name when you sign up with this link!

The mistake I made was that I spent hours on end trying out a pretty theme and designing them to make them look perfect. Do not make the same mistake I did.

Get a functional theme from either one of these sites below and have someone set it up for you. I got someone to set up the website from Fiverr for USD100 and was done with it.

No tech worries for me and the unnecessary headache that come with it.

You can get great themes from these websites:

If you are a tech-savvy person, by all means, you could set the blog up yourself. However, if you are like me, choose a lightweight and decent theme that will not slow down your site, have someone set it up, and voila, your blog is ready to go!

5. Decide On How Often You Will Be Publishing

If you have 3 posts up on your blog, let’s be real, you are not going to be making any money and the question “is it too late to start a blog” could just turn into a manifesting nightmare.

Decide how often you can post up as much good-quality content as you can.

The faster you get them up and running on your site, the quicker Google will recognize your site, and the faster you can earn money.

Can You Make Money Blogging?

The answer is YES. There is a report showing after just 2 years of building traffic and subscribers, bloggers can make upwards of $100,000 annually. This may not seem like a lot of money for some, but for a budding blogger like me years ago, trapped in a corporate job cycle, this is a dream!

Adam Enfroy, a blogger, is one of the many proofs there is out there.

He earns up to USD 1.5 million annually from blogging! His last income report which was in June 2021, stated that he earned USD 281,776 in one month, and that is the equivalent of being the owner of 25 Starbucks chains.

Now, this is one of the successful blogs, and please do not have the expectations to earn such amounts when you are just starting out.

You will go through multiple ups and downs just like you would any other business before you reach that point, just like Adam would have throughout his journey.

Setting up realistic expectations would help in your blogging journey and if you are consistent and resilient, you can soon see income through your blog.  Is it too late to start a blog, I don’t think so!!

Is It Worth Starting A Blog?

Yes, blogging is worth it. It is important to recognize that there is a significant distinction between blogging for fun and blogging as a business model.

When it comes to blogging for fun, the attention is just on you and no one else. By treating your blog as another “Dear diary” entry, you are not going to get any traffic or readers to your site.

Do not blog about the difficult day you had at work or how Uncle Sally at the burger shop refused to give you extra pickles on your order because here is the hard truth, no one cares.

Blogging as a business model means you are helping your readers.

Why should anyone come and read your blog posts? Are your posts educating and entertaining? Are your blog posts providing solutions to your readers?

If yes, then it is absolutely worth it starting a blog as people are always looking for answers online and if your blog posts help them, they are highly likely to visit your blog to read other blog posts from you.

For example, if you set up a food blog and you post up a recipe for some good old fried chicken. If any one of your readers tries out your recipe and loves them, it is highly likely they will come back to your blog to browse through your catalogue and try out another recipe!

This way you get recurring traffic to your blog, meaning more income as well.

Is Blogging Still Popular In 2024?

My blogs make me six figures in USD a year and I am a new blogger. Imagine what they could earn when I have more experience?! I am excited.

Is Blogging Still Profitable In 2024?

YES, blogging is still profitable in 2022! I know I have pretty much said yes to all these FAQs, but my answer is yes to this question as well.

Blogging is still profitable in 2022 if you know how to monetize it well.
