What Is Pinterest?

First things first, what an earth is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a visual search engine. People go on Pinterest to search for inspiration and to try new things. Pinterest currently has 322 million active users, most of them women….with spending power. $$$$!

Here is a statistic which is important:

A total of 82 percent of weekly active users on Pinterest say they have bought products based on their brands’ content on the platform (Pinterest, 2019).

This means that if you are on Pinterest… you can make money from it.

I know this.. because I only started Pinterest in January 2020 and I started made money two months later. I am kicking myself for not starting earlier !

How to Make Money from Pinterest

1-   Drive Traffic To Your Blog and Earn From Ads

The easiest way you can make money on Pinterest is to drive people from Pinterest to your blog and earn from adverts.

This means that every time someone views your blog … you get paid.

You get paid because there will be adverts on your blog, that your audience sees… and advertising networks will pay for the privilege of having their ads on your site.

This sounds crazy but it’s true, as it is one of the ways I earn from my blog.

Here is a list of advertising networks you can sign up to for FREE:

  • Google AdSense-No minimum pageviews
  • Pop Ads-No minimum pageviews
  • VigLinkNo minimum pageviews
  • Media.net- No minimum pageviews
  • Ezoic- Minimum 10,000 pageviews
  • Monumetic- Minimum 10,000 pageviews – Now they charge $99 for signup
  • Mediavine- Minimum 50,000 SESSIONS*
  • Adthrive- Minimum 100,000 pageviews

*Sessions are a different metric from pageviews

So here is the process you can follow:

  • Set up a blog
  • Set up Pinterest
  • Apply for an advertising network
  • Drive traffic from Pinterest to your blog and start earning from ads

Here is a Step by Step tutorial on how to set up a blog over one weekend.

Here is a great course which teaches you how to set up and be successful on Pinterest. Chelsea is an amazing mommy blogger who made $100, 000 from one of her blogs within 2 years, all due to the power of Pinterest!

However, if you are on a bit of a budget, this one is only $19 right now, at the time of writing. Its run by Elna Cain, a busy mom of twins who has skyrocketed her traffic using Pinterest.

I have bought quite a few of her courses and every single one of them is good value.

2-   Drive Traffic and Get Paid with Affiliate Links on Your Blog

The second way you can make money on Pinterest is via placing an affiliate link in your blog and then drive traffic to your blog via Pinterest.

An affiliate link is a link that allows you to earn commission if someone buys a product or service you recommend via your affiliate links, AT NO EXTRA COST to the buyer.

The seller gets a sale. The buyer pays the same price either way. And you get a commission from the seller,  for directing the buyer to the product.

Affiliate links are the main way I earn from my blog, as its somewhat passive. This means that I earn from my blog even though I am not directly working on it.

For example, yesterday while I slept, pinners in different time zones viewed and clicked on my pins and visited my website.

Some of them bought the products or services recommended on my site and I earned a commission.

Here is a list of affiliate marking programs for beginners:

  • Shareasale
  • Max bounty
  • CJ affiliates
  • Awin
  • Amazon Affiliates – Perfect for beginners, easy approval
  • Flex offers
  • Impact
  • Rakuten network

So this is the process you follow :

  • Set up a blog
  • Set up Pinterest
  • Apply for affiliate networks
  • Write a blog post and include affiliate links in the post
  • Drive traffic from Pinterest to your blog and start earning from affiliate marketing

If you need some guidance on making money from your blog via affiliate marketing,  this course is the only reason I started making money on my blog.

The course is ran by a lady called Michelle who made over $100,000, per month, on affiliate marketing from her blog.

I remember feeling quite skeptical about affiliate marketing before I took her course and then when I started making money…. I can’t shut up about it.

I had to double check my bank account 3-4 times to make sure it wasn’t a scam ( I am an ex-banker, very cautious and risk averse )

So, if you want to start earning money from your blog within 2 months, check out how here.

Note- It is important to disclose on your site that you have affiliate links.

Note 2- Affiliate earnings will always be more than advertising earnings. Its more effort but you get more money.

3-   Post Affiliate Links Directly on Pinterest (No Blog Needed)

If you don’t have a blog yet , don’t worry.

You can make money on Pinterest by placing affiliate links DIRECTLY on Pinterest

So here is the process:

  • Sign up to affiliate marketing networks (mentioned above)
  • Set up a Pinterest account
  • Create beautiful click worthy pins, with SEO optimised keywords
  • Include the affiliate link on the pin
  • Disclose that it’s an affiliate pin by stating #ad, #affiliatelink

4-   Drive Pinterest Traffic To Your Own Product

This is probably one of the best ways to make money from Pinterest. The reason why is you get the whole amount, not just a commission, if the customer buys your product.

So if you have a product or service to sell, follow this process:

  • Set up a website/ blog
  • Take a good picture of the product and list it on your site
  • Create a pin with a picture of the product
  • Drive traffic to your website and the customer buys your product

5-   Become a Pinterest Manager

A Pinterest Manager is someone who helps a business owner with their Pinterest account and helps them grow their Pinterest and drive traffic to their products or services.

Setting up Pinterest, creating catchy pins, doing keyword research, joining groups boards, tailwind tribes, pinning , all these tasks take time!

So business owners hire Pinterest managers to do this all for them, so they can focus on their business.

Here are some of the tasks that a Pinterest manager / assistant could offer:

  • Pinterest account set up
  • Pin creation
  • Pin scheduling
  • Keyword research
  • Automatic pinning
  • Manual pinning
  • Joining group boards
  • Join and pining to Tailwind Tribes

If this all sounds a big frightening to you, don’t worry. This can be learned.

I learned it all in 2 weeks using this course.

I’ve had a look at many courses but the one that is most practical and teaches you the most is the Become a Pinterest VA Today course.

It teaches you the services you can offer as a Pinterest Manager, how to package your pricing and how to find clients.

There is also detailed tutorials of how to use Pinterest, Tailwind and Canva for pin design.

They are running a FREE workshop on now, which can give you an idea as to what a Pinterest VA does and how to get started.

Well there you have it, 5 main ways you can make money from Pinterest.
