1. Start-Up Chile

If you’ve ever asked yourself “how to move to Chile”, and you’ve got a startup idea of your own, you’re welcome to join the Start-Up Chile Program.

The Start-Up Chile program gives you $50,000 to bootstrap your company, a one-year visa, and a whole network to help you kick off.

The startups that they are looking to accelerate are startups that are tech-based, innovative, scalable, and impactful.

They want you to think BIG and have got 3 programs to support you; BUILD, Ignite, and Growth.

2. BUILD

The first program, BUILD, is a program for early-stage startups. This is where you go from a validated to an early-stage prototype.

The program is typically for 4 months, and they run 2 cohorts a year for about 40 to 50 startups.

In case you’re not familiar, a cohort in this scenario is where a  group of startups receive investment or go through an accelerator program together in the same period. 

So the 40 to 50 startups chosen are considered a cohort. 

In the BUILD program, you get an equity-free finding of CLP $10M (USD $13,000) and even a possibility of a further CLP $5M (USD $6,000). 

A super cool part about BUILD is that the startups must at least be 50% led by female founders! Yay, girl power! 

The following are the criteria to qualify for BUILD:

• The team leader must be above 18 years old.
• The team leader must have the startup as her full-time job.
• The company must be created at most 12 months before the application opens.
• The team leader has to settle in Chile throughout the duration of the program OR until you’ve spent the entire grant.
• If you get the extension money, you need to stay until you’ve finished that money too.
• You cannot change team leaders after the application, so be sure you have the right leader for your team!

3. IGNITE

The second program, IGNITE, is for you if your startup has a functional product and early validation. 

They run 2 cohorts for about 30 to 40 startups, and the program runs for 4 months.

If you’re successful, you get equity-free funding of CLP $25M (USD $32,000). You can apply for a further extension, and if approved, you can get double the amount.

To qualify for IGNITE:

• Your startup must have at least one functional product or service.
• You can apply as a sole founder, or your team members must have complementary skills to have a better chance of being selected.
• The team leader must have the startup as their full-time job.
• The team leader must be a founder and own more than 10% of the company
• Your company must be created at most 3 years before applications are open
• You must stay in Chile throughout the entire program or until you’ve spent the entire grant.
• If you win the extension, you must stay on until you’ve also spent the extension money.
• You cannot change the team leader after the application is completed, so you need to make sure you’ve got the right guy, or girl 🙂

4. GROWTH

The final program under Start-Up Chile is GROWTH, for the expansion of consolidated innovative tech-based businesses.

You get a cool CLP $75M (USD $97,000) if you’re one of the 15 to 18 startups selected. They run 2 cohorts a year.

This program runs for 8 months.

To quality for GROWTH:

• Your startup needs to be selling for CLP $80M to $800M (USD $100k to $1000k).
• The team leader must have 10% equity in the business.
• The team leader must be fully committed to the program and company exclusively, meaning not attached to any other program or company.
• The team leader needs to be in Chile for the entire program duration.
• You can be an individual who is a partner or founder of a company incorporated in another country if you’re using Chile as a platform to grow.
• You must show at least USD $100k to $1M in sales invoices in the past 12 months before you apply.
