How To Get Paid For Searching The Web?

So, you want to get paid for searching the web but you’re not sure how it’s done? Don’t worry, that’s exactly what we’ll cover today.

Whether you believe it or not, there are actual companies that will pay you to flip through the internet.

But, I’m going to be honest with you, this isn’t some get rich overnight scheme.

Instead, think of these jobs as a way for you to make some extra money without breaking a sweat.

If you enjoy surfing the web and you spend most of your time on your laptop, you can make money searching the internet. It’s a great way to incorporate your favorite past-time and make productive use of your free time.

Some of them will be simple and others may require some experience but I’ll walk you through that.

These are some of the ways that we’ll have a look at if you’re interested in getting paid to search the web:

List Of Ways To Get Paid For Searching The Web

Search Engine Evaluator

The first way you can get paid for searching the web is by looking into becoming a search engine evaluator.

Search engine companies like Google, Bing, and Yahoo hire people (you) to analyze search engine results.

Your job would be to clean up search engines and rate search results.

You’ll be given a time limit to complete specific tasks, look at results and see if they meet guidelines.

This is a no frills job, don’t take your time and work fast because you’ll only be paid for that given time limit.

What are the requirements to work as a search engine evaluator? According to Glassdoor, these are the requirements for this job:

  1. Must pass a qualification exam
  2. 1-2 years of search engine experience preferred, but not required
  3. In-depth familiarity with search engines and web search
  4. Excellent research and analytic skills
  5. Proficiency in computer operating software and the internet
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  7. Basic knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) preferred
  8. The ability to multitask and prioritize projects effectively
  9. The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

Those are the barriers of entry to be a search engine evaluator.

If you’re someone who’s detail oriented, works fast, analytical, and likes staying in their pyjamas (optional), then you can get paid for searching the web.

What about the pay?

Well, according to Tough Nickel, you can earn in the range of $12 to $15 per hour in most cases but the pay is based on your country.

For instance, someone from India will earn less as a search engine evaluator as someone in the United States.

This is unfair but that is how the cookie crumbles.

Where Can You Find Work As A Search Engine Evaluator?

Appen and Lionbridge

Two companies that will help you earn money searching the web are Appen and Lionbridge. They regularly hire people (you) to evaluate search engine results.

In this case, you are hired as a subcontractor and you’ll basically be tasked to ensure that search engines such as Yahoo and or Google present the most relevant search results when people enter a search term.

Yup, you see those articles on the first few pages?

Someone has a look at that content and see if it’s relevant. Guidelines for companies vary but when you get hired at Appen and Lionbridge, you’ll be given a specific set of guidelines that you have to adhere to.

How to get started?

Start working for Appen and Lionbridge by clicking on their website and applying directly for search engine evaluator jobs.

Another way you can make money online searching the web is with Swagbucks. It’s one of the most passive options to get paid for searching the web on this list.

How to get started?

All you have to do is download the browser extension given by Swagbucks and voila; it runs in the background while you search the web.

Note -The Swagbucks browser extension gives you search results from Yahoo instead of Google.

Swagbucks is also great for those of you who want to get cashback for searching the web and shopping.

That’s right, the company will inform you of any cashbacks when you shop online. Sometimes there are limited offers that go as high as 20%

Aside from getting cashbacks for shopping, you can get paid to watch movies or ads, and even play games while using the Swagbucks search engine.

You don’t even have to watch the movie, it just needs to be running.

After you’ve signed up with Swagbucks, you can select a movie and then let it run in the background while you go off and do your other tasks.

Users can redeem Swagbucks points for either cash via PayPal account or alternatively, gift cards.

Ask Wonder

You can get paid for searching the web if you love researching and writing too!

AskWonder hires Wonder Researchers to look up the answers to queries and write reports for clients.

Your sole duty is to scour the web in search of the answer. You will be paid per task so you know exactly what you’ll make before you start your research.

What is the pay for a Wonder Researcher, you ask?

Well the pay varies depending on the question you’re assigned. Simple questions go for about $8 and more complex requests pay up to $35.

Ask Wonder’s hourly rates can be anywhere from $15-$25 per hour when you’re first starting out.

They make payments every two weeks and there isn’t a minimum payment threshold you have to meet either.

How to get started?

Head on over to their website and you’ll see the words “Become A Researcher” at the top right hand corner of the website.

When you click on that, you’ll be directed to another page where you will have to fill in your details. From there, you can begin the application process.

And the requirements?

There are no degree requirements, but you will have to take and pass a test, along with three practice requests and then you’re ready to start. Getting paid for searching the web never sounded easier, eh?

Get paid for searching the internet with ZoomBucks

Much like Swagbucks, you collect points for completing tasks like surfing the web and much more. It’s a great way to make some extra money.

If you’re worried about legitimacy, worry not; ZoomBucks has a 4/5  rating on the website Trustpilot.

Users interested in survey taking will be happy to know that if you start a survey and you’re not qualified for that particular survey, you will still get partial payment for that partially completed survey.

When users have accumulated enough points, they can redeem them through paypal.

Another thing I like about ZoomBucks is that your points never expire. There is a minimum cash out threshold but it’s only $3.

How to get started?

ZoomBucks makes it really easy to start working with them. When you click on their website, the words “SIGN UP FOR FREE” are the first words you see.

Survey Junkie

Survey Junkie is an oldie but a goodie, in my opinion.

You can do more than take surveys on this website, you can also make money searching the web with Survey Junkie.

I like Survey Junkie because you don’t have to use a search engine like Google to get your work in.

Instead, all you’ve got to do is download Survey Junkie Pulse and start sharing your browsing data with companies that use it for market research purposes.

All of your search results will be sent to your Survey Junkie account and  when there’s a survey suitable for you (based on your browsing data) you will be notified immediately.

What’s next? Take that survey really quick and get paid.

How to get started?

All you have to do is click on their website and sign up to get started.

Microsoft Rewards

Who is more reputable to do paid web searching for than Microsoft?

You guys remember Bing right?

Bing is Microsoft’s equivalent to Google and guess what? You got it, Bing will pay you to search the web.

To get paid for searching the web, you have to install and set up a free Microsoft rewards account

Each time you use Bing and enter a search term, you will earn points. These points or rewards are accumulated and tracked on a credit counter in your browser.

Alternatively, you can download something called the ‘Bing bar’ on your browser and input your search terms that way instead.

You can also receive rewards by taking quizzes, renting videos, answering polls, and a whole bunch of other things.

But how many points do you earn and what can you do with them?

Each search will earn you 5 points and you can either redeem them for airline miles or hotels, gift cards or even donate your earnings to charity.

How to get started?

Click on the link above and sign up for free.

Not a fan of Bing? That’s alright, you can still get paid for searching the web through Google with the help of Qmee

Qmee is an extension that works with Google Chrome.

The browser extension displays a small window on the corner of your sidebar when you do a Google, Amazon, or eBay search.

Next to the ad, you’ll see an amount -when you click on the advertisement, you earn the monetary amount listed prior. Doesn’t that sound like a breeze?

You get paid per task or ad through your Paypal account and what one thing that’s great about Qmee is that there isn’t a minimum threshold for withdrawal.

If you made $0.15 and wanted to withdraw that amount immediately, you can do so without waiting.

If you’re on the fence about Qmee, maybe this will put your worries at ease. Currently, Qmee is rated 4.5/5 stars on Trustpilot.

How to get started?

Qmee makes it easy for you to start working with them by putting a sign up option as their banner. Really, it’s the first thing on their website. You can’t miss it.

No college degree? Zero experience?

No problem, with User testing you don’t need either of those things to get paid for searching the web.

As a user tester, you’ll be paid for watching ads or searching the web, the choice is yours.

The companies that hire people as user testers essentially want to know things such as how user-friendly their website is or if their newest ad is appealing or an eyesore.

User tester pays per task and it usually pays about $10 per 20-minute task or you could get paid $30 per hour.  Higher paying tasks can go for about $60 and are more often the ones that have the video and audio recorded.

Note- A program will be installed into your phone or laptop.

It will record your audio (and video if you choose) during these tasks, which is why you’ll have to speak your thoughts out loud as you browse and click on links when you do tasks. This is great if you’re used to talking to yourself out loud.

I don’t know the intricacies of this but stay clear of this position if you aren’t comfortable with this bit.

And if you’re okay with it but you’re soft spoken? Then make sure you project that voice and speak up when you’re doing your tasks.

Tip: buy a cheap microphone to help the software pick up your speech clearly.

How to get started?

Hop on over to their website and apply for vacancies directly with the company.

Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel

Nielsen is another company that will allow you to earn money searching the web.

It’s a reputable and well-known market research company and you get paid just for installing their browser extension (more on that later).

How to get paid for searching the web with Nielson?

  • Install the Nielsen browser extension
  • Go about your business and search the web

You can earn money by completing tasks like watching videos on the internet and playing games.

If you’ve got a lot to say, you can also get paid for giving feedback on your favorite or not so favorite TV networks. Nielsen is a well-known name in the TV rating world and it’s completely authentic.

If this is something you’re interested in, then all you have to do is download the Nielsen Digital Voice app and start sharing your opinion and views.

Upon completing your tasks, you will be awarded points. You can use these points to enter the monthly giveaway.

P.s. you’ll want to enter it because you could stand to win $10,000.

If you don’t think you’ll win, don’t worry, you won’t leave empty handed. Nielsen will pay you $50 each year just for having the extension installed.

Talk about easy money!

They say time is money.

The internet is a great place and if you spend most of your time on it, why not cash in and get paid for searching the web while you’re at it?

You can start a side hustle and earn some extra money without putting in any hard work.
