First things first, you need to know the job market in Spain. Does it align with what you’ll be doing as your career? How to move to Spain with no money?
I suggest landing a remote working job as you’ll be able to get paid to move to Spain and also earn income without worrying about getting a job there.
Secondly, it’s also important to research Spain’s culture for you to understand what Spain is really like and see if you can adapt to the culture there.
If you have a family with you, it’s also important to talk to your family members to see if they would be able to adapt to the new customs.
Moving is also a big change, ask yourself what you’re looking for in this move. Are you looking to escape your current situation?
Are you looking for a fresh start? Whatever your reasons may be, make sure you understand your motivations for moving to Spain.
- Who Can Apply
The next question is, is there a limitation on who can move to Spain? Well, anyone can move to Spain. You can, too.
Though the moving process can be easier for some people.
1. EU/EEA and Switzerland Citizens
Are you a citizen of the EU/EEA or Switzerland? Great news! You don’t even need a Spanish visa. Just pack your things in boxes and move to Spain!
You can work and live in Spain without any visa for 3 months before taking legal steps.
This is great if you’re one to try and test out the environment, don’t like it after the 3rd month? You can always return home.
2. Non-EU/EEA and Switzerland Citizens
For the majority, you will need to require a temporary residence if you want to stay in Spain, especially if you’ll be there longer than 3 months.
To get permanent residence in Spain, you must live and work in Spain for at least 5 continuous years.
- Moving With Pets
Do you have pets? Relocating you and your family is one headache, but moving with your pets is a whole other level of headache. H
Here is a moving to Spain checklist on 3 things you need to know about moving with your pets.
1. Vaccinations and Microchip
I suggest you start microchipping your pet 30 days before your moving date.
Pets must also have an implanted microchip. In addition to ISO, Spain also accepts AVID-9 and AVID-10.
As for vaccinations, they should be valid at the time of importance and at least before the export date. So picking the date of vaccination is important.
All your pets must also have the original Rabies Certificate signed by their vet and at least 21 days at the time of the pet’s final health check.
2. Import Documentation
You need to ensure that all your documents are valid 10 days from the date of issue.
Make sure you have your microchip implantation record, rabies certificate, EU vet health certificate, and airline health certificate.
You can get most of the certificate from your vet, but if you need some help I suggest getting a pet relocation to help you.
3. The 5-Day Rule
If your cat or dog is imported flying a non-commercial flight, the pet must fly within 5 days with you.
Let’s say you can’t make this 5-Day rule, it can still be done but a commercial move increases cost and changes the EU import.
You can find more detailed information from the Pet Relocation services. You also need to bear in mind that not all species of dogs are welcome in Spain.

Ponga is a land of reserved lands, Cantabrian Mountain which is an hour’s drive from the coast happens to be one of the UNESCO-designated biosphere reserves.
Ponga Nature Park, another biosphere reserve, is home to many endangered birds. A perfect place for birders to do birdwatching.
Imagine the beautiful countryside you’ll be waking up to every day.
You’ll have easy access to awe-inspiring hiking trails, birdwatching spots, and thrilling sports you get to enjoy all year long.
The Costa Verde beach offers surfing beach days, and those of you who are looking for a busier pace can go to Gijon, the closest city in Ponga.
All you have to do is stay here for the next 5 years to get permanent residence! Easy peasy.

I suggest traveling to Ponga first and seeing what it’s like for yourself before deciding to get paid to move to Ponga, Spain.
Rubiá is one of the other countries that pay you to move there.
Close to the south-eastern border, at 512 meters above sea level, Rubiá backs to the province of León with around 1,4000 count towns.
You’ll be able to enjoy the panoramic view of the entire Valdeorras Valley, a huge portion of a whole other province.
The village is located at the edge of Sierra de La Encina de la Lastra; a nature reserve that is bordered by the Sil River.
Mostly mountains, it’s about 1 hour and a half from the capital city and with it being one of the most beautiful landscapes.
It attracts a lot of holidaymakers looking for hiking trips and a peaceful countryside break away from the busy city.
Rubiá is also easier to get connected to the inter-provincial highway just about 2.5 hours drive from east of Santiago de Compostela.

Despite it being sparsely populated, I feel it’s worth the investment! It’s a real bargain that you can’t find anywhere else.
A Xesta is in northern Spain right in Galicia, with one of the most beautiful beaches you can find in Spain.
Though A Xesta is not offering money to pay expats to move to Spain it came up with a fantastic scheme for new residents!
People who just moved to A Xesta are being offered rental prices as low as $100 per month! I don’t know about you, but with the current rate rental is going up; I’m intrigued!
You won’t get paid to move to another country, but a massive deal on rental prices is a win for me.
If you’ve always wanted to live in Scotland or Ireland for that rolling hill, and green scenery then you’ve chosen quite the right place.
Galicia is just breathtaking and is often described as a ‘Scottish Carribean’. In the province itself, Pontevedra, the biggest city is Vigo.
Just 32 KM away from A Xesta, Vigo is known for its spectacular Christmas lights.
Every year, the city will be filled with tourists from around the world just to admire the decoration.
Despite A Xesta being in a remote village, Galicia is larger and very well visited. You can always go up to Galicia to find entertainment.
Would you move to a place that would offer you a peaceful and tranquil lifestyle? Definitely right! Miravete de la Sierra is exactly that, and that’s what it’s offering.
Although there is no money involved in moving here, no low rental prices, and no scheme for buying plots, the idea of a stress-free life is surely a great mental benefit!
The idea of being at peace intrigued many people who were leading the hustle and bustle, and many people felt the need to disconnect from that.
I suppose that’s the pros and cons of moving to Spain. On one hand, you get a more stress-free lifestyle, but on the other, you have to adjust to the new and quiet village.
As a result of making Miravete de la Sierra a place that promotes stress-free, more than 700 people have wanted to live there.
If you’re a historian, Miravete de la Sierra has a lot of historical buildings like churches, castles and even an old prison.
Would you like to go there for a visit? Here are some hotels I found in Teruel you can book, it starts from $300 per night.
Giregos is also another village that’s located in Teruel that’s looking for new residents to make their village livelier.
Griego’s aim is to attract families with small children so that they are able to keep their local schools open.
With just a 132-count town the city counselor has come up with a few intriguing schemes that would entice you!
Whoever decides to settle in the small village, will benefit from having three months of free rent and a chance to get a job!
For the first 3 months, your rental is covered by the council. After the 3 months, you would need to start paying rent but for a very low price, only $250 per month.
As for jobs, it’s almost a guarantee, it’s just up to you whether you’ll take it or not.
One is waiting tables at the village local restaurant and the other is running and managing the village local hotel.
No specific requirements have been said about moving to Griegos other than having children.
Although it could be high time to brush up on your Spanish especially if your children will be attending school there.
Whether or not you’re a single parent or guardian, all is welcome as the council’s main goal is to increase the number of students in the school.
Turel’s hospitality is one of the highlights of being in Griegos. The people treat every visitor as part of the family as soon as they unpack!
As a newcomer just moving to Griegos, you should not have to worry. You’ll be part of the family soon enough.
Fiestas and annual community pageants are also something to be excited about in Turel.
In February, Griegos holds one of the most famous and popular events; the husky race in the snow!
One of the pros and cons living in Spain is that you’ll have to accept certain customs you’re not used to, like using animals as transportation.
On the contrary, you’ll be so much more accepting and open-minded of the other cultures and be more understanding.
Griegos is probably one of those small villages that still use huskies for transport when deep winter comes to help them get by.
As for farming families, you would still see them have donkeys as part of their transportation.
