One day you might want to earn a little income outside your main job Or maybe you are SICK of your colleague named Tristan and your insufferable boss and wish you could quit on the spot, so Tristan can stop complaining about his lovely wife and leave you alone Or maybe… you just want the soft life along with soft Silkie hens (incredible creatures with funky feathers; they look like this O_O) and the only stressful thing about your day is whether to have pancakes or French toast for breakfast (the answer is both btw) Either way, you are going to need 2 things: 1- Money to fund your lifestyle And if you don’t have that 2- The ability to turn your skills into money This email will cover both topics briefly; keep reading Let me tackle the first β
1. MoneyWell, I teach how to save and grow money in my September envelope, without any risky nonsense The September Chapter is called ‘Let’s Talk Money, Honey’ And I share all the money mistakes and lessons I’ve learned so far, how I’ve grown some of my investments by up to 40%, and exactly what I put my money into. There is also a useful book discussion relating to growing your money and a few other cool little treasures π βToday is the last day to sign up! β β 2. The ability to turn your skills into money I was talking to a fellow blogger who also just started a snail mail club (yay! she’s awesome) Anyway, she’s in her first month, and I just KNOW she’s feeling what I felt at the beginning, when I launched Initial excitement, adrenaline, the hope, the exciting launch and turning your idea into reality, then the disappointing, crushing realization that everything you see on social media is …. not reality Yes, there are people who launch new businesses and go viral overnight and get 500 customers immediately (this is the stuff the algorithm pushes, as it gives people HOPE and they keep scrolling ) But it’s the exception, not the norm The norm is launching a new business, 2 people buying your product, and you feeling confused and actually irritated because… where is everyone who SWORE they would support your business, especially the ones you’ve supported and helped all along and who promised: ‘just launch it, can’t wait to buy it, xoxoxo ‘ then you do and crickets… -_- Anyway, I am past the irritated, confused stage, and I want to share some things that have helped me grow my little business. Because we simply cannot control what other people do, but we can control what WE do and how we react to it, and we can focus on actions that bring results and bring us closer to more delightful customers β β β Lesson 1 You HAVE to actually share your product /service regularly! People need to see a product or brand an average of 7 to 28 times before buying, depending heavily on the cost and familiarity of the item And if it’s something unusual, like snail mail, be prepared to share it more Admittedly, I didn’t do a very good job at this in September, as I only shared it ONCE on my IG feed βHere’s the one video I made β BUT, I did share it on my Ig stories, which helped a lot! You don’t need to be salesy or pushy; you can just share it in a gentle way More on that in lesson 2 below β Lesson 2 Share the PROCESS, not just the end result This is easier if you are in a visual niche; share the process of designing, buying supplies, creating – the whole journey But if you are like me, where the main focus of my envelope is the LETTER and the lessons in the letter ….. What do you share? I shared snippets like this on my stories while I wrote the letter. β
And on another day, I shared this
People want to see the process because it makes them feel included, and it also makes it feel more real. They vote on what they want me to talk about, and as paying customers, they have a say in what goes in the letter. So, include your audience, and share the process behind creating the product β Be a nice person I have no idea if this is why I got more subscribers this month, but I tried to be more generous with my time and money this month Maybe good karma is saying hi! People want to buy from people they like and trust; I know I do! What you put out into the world comes right back to you. So, if you want people to support your business, start by supporting theirs. Show love and enthusiasm for their ideas, and if you can’t afford to buy, then liking and sharing on social media and telling your friends about their business is free! β Learn from the competition but own your weird I started this snail mail club trying to be like all the successful ones out there – the talented artists with more visual clubs And I struggled π Then I got fed up of trying to be like everyone else ( itβs exhausting not being yourself ), and I just leaned into what has always worked for me : Sharing everyday lessons and topics that we all experience For example, this month is about growing your money, next month is overcoming burnout, and I definitely want to do a letter on how to set healthy boundaries without offending everyone. Nurturing friendships, relationships, self-confidence, and how to cook and eat healthier These are all things I share on my social media here So I am going to give it to my small community in a tangible form so they can read it, put it away, come back to it, and learn the lessons little by little, like a good book! I don’t know of any other snail mail club doing this, which is pretty exciting! β Lesson 5 Make the journey worth it, not just the end result You know what really helped me keep going, even when someone canceled, and another person said they didn’t want to sign up as it was too expensive (it’s the price of two coffees bruh -_- ….) What helped me squash that negative voice of self-doubt was asking myself : If I fail to get the result I want… what else am I learning in the process of trying to get it? For me, it’s learning how to grow social media, learning how to run a membership, learning and improving my writing craft, and learning how to sell a physical product with packaging and delivery That’s a lot of learning! And if I never hit my dream goal of 250 subscribers and decide I want to pivot again, I will have gained so much in the process of trying to get to my goal So, ask yourself this : What am I gaining/learning on this journey to get to my end goal? β What you learn is equally important as the actual result, as you build skills for life β What’s next?I feel I am really getting into my groove. I am gaining the confidence to write about things I truly care about, that people care about too! I’m excited to keep going, keep improving, and keep building something real with you all. And sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly! Thanks for being part of this journey. Before you go – Do you have an annoying boss or colleague? I want to hear, hah! Hit reply and tell me. I read every single email π Thanks for reading Aisha Preece from Outandbeyond.comβ PS: I share my bare minimum low-effort strategy to grow my blogs on my Instagram stories β if you want more behind-the-scenes like this, come hang out: @aishapreeceβ PPS; I’d love you to join my snail mail; it’s the cost of a meal or two coffees and SO worth it π PPPS: Some pics from the week! β β
