When you do a search on Pinterest, you get tons of pictures that lead you to websites and informative articles.
People go to Pinterest to look for inspiration in the form of stunning pictures known as pins that are pinned to relevant Pinterest boards.
Whatever niche your blog is based on, you are most certainly going to be able to find the best Pinterest strategy that works for you.
Once you get the hang of it, you will find that Pinterest is one of the easiest ways to get more traffic to your blog.
Step-By-Step: How To Use Pinterest To Drive More Traffic To Your Blog
I promised you a step-by-step guide on how to use Pinterest strategy for bloggers. And that is exactly what you are going to get!
Step 1: Sign Up For A Pinterest Business Account
When you are on a Pinterest business account instead of your personal one, Pinterest recognizes you as a content creator as opposed to a content consumer.
With this, you will have certain business-related features that are not available on personal accounts.
More importantly, with a business account, you can get detailed insights and analytics about which pins and boards are working to drive traffic to your blog. With this information, you can adjust and plan your Pinterest traffic strategy accordingly.
If you already have a personal Pinterest account with a substantial number of followers, it may be tempting to simply convert this to a business account.
However, this is not a Pinterest strategy for bloggers I would recommend .
This is especially so if your personal account had a range of different pins but you now intend to be more focused on a specific niche that relates to the content on your blog. Your existing followers may not be interested and may stop interacting with your content altogether.
As such, it is best to start afresh with a brand new business account and build up a new set of organic followers from there.
Step 2: Claim Your Account

You will need to connect your Pinterest account to your blog.
All you need to do is go to the settings page of your account and click on “Claim”. Then, you simply need to follow the straightforward instructions that pop up. This essentially involves pasting code into your blog’s backend.
If you’re like me, you will probably get heart palpitations just from seeing things like HTML tags, root directory, and code. BUT DON’T PANIC!
If you are a blogger, you will already know how to do this.
And you can also take comfort in the fact that the instructions given by Pinterest are pretty specific and easy to follow as can be seen below.
If you are on other social media platforms, you can also connect your Pinterest account to them using the same instructions. Do note that the actual linking process may differ depending on which social media platform you are linking to.
In any case, Pinterest makes it extremely user-friendly to connect all your social media platforms.
Step 3: Create Your Pins & Start Pinning
It’s now time to get those creative juices flowing!
If you aren’t skilled at graphic design or aren’t familiar with design software, fret not.
This is where Canva expertly comes to the rescue.
When creating pins, it is extremely important to make sure that you use the correct graphic size.
Canva has preset templates specifically for Pinterest. This will ensure that you have the correct graphic measurements for your pins.
To find them, just click on “Create a design” and type “Pinterest” into the dropdown search bar.

When creating pins, it is also advisable to come up with at least 3 pins per post that you want to link to. Pinterest loves variety and this Pinterest strategy will increase the chances of your pin being found and clicked on.
Additionally, make sure that your images are attractive and click-worthy.
You can use specific keywords in your images as well to draw attention to them.
You can also see that Pinterest has detailed guidance as to how to create high-quality pins that will maximize engagement.
Now, you can see why Pinterest is so easy to use. They WANT you to succeed in driving traffic to your blog!
Of course, the most important thing when you are implementing a Pinterest strategy for your blog is to ensure that you insert the destination link!
You can link the pin to your blog’s landing page or to a specific post in your blog depending on your Pinterest marketing strategy.
All you need to do is copy and paste the link into the “Destination link” box when you are creating your pin.
Step 4: Get Familiar With Pinterest SEO
Implementing SEO is when you optimize the words that are used in your pin’s title and description to match the search queries of content consumers on Pinterest.
When you create individual Pinterest boards to pin your content to, it is also important to optimize the description of these boards.
Where the search queries match your title and description, Pinterest is likely to show your pins in the search results. This increases the chances of users clicking on your pin and being directed to your blog.

As such, it is worthwhile to spend the time and effort to carry out detailed Pinterest keyword research to find out exactly what users are searching for.

Step 5: Create Rich Pins
Once you have got the hang of creating pins and optimizing them for maximum engagement, you can start to create ‘rich pins’.
Rich pins are only available on Pinterest business accounts. Essentially, rich pins automatically sync the content of your blog to the pins that you create and post.
The best thing about rich pins is that when you change anything on your blog, it automatically changes on the pin as well.
This will most certainly save you plenty of time and you don’t have to keep going back and forth between your blog and your Pinterest account if you are making multiple changes.
Rich pins can be identified on Pinterest from the detailed information that can be found below the close-up of the image.
For example, if your pin is linked to a product on your blog, the pin will contain a description of the product, its price, and whether or not the product is currently available.
If you are linking your pin to an article on your blog, then a rich pin will contain a detailed description of the post.
Do keep in mind however that you have to apply for rich pins in order to start using them.
It may seem a little intimidating when you first get started. But you only need to set it up once and any content on your blog will be reflected as a rich pin.
Step 6: Use Your Keywords Strategically
Once you have done your Pinterest keyword research, you will need to place them in the appropriate places so that your pins can match what people look for.
Make sure your keywords are contained in the title and description of your pin.
For example, if your pin is about the best newborn gifts, then a good description for your pin would be:
“If you’re at a loss as to what to get for a newborn, then check out this list of best newborn gifts. From organic newborn gifts to best toys for newborns, you will find a range of online gifts for babies that will work for your budget”
The words in bold are keywords that are placed within the description, making it easy for Pinterest users to find your content!
Step 7: Use Tailwind
To put it simply, Tailwind is your Pinterest virtual assistant in the form of an app. It is the Holy Grail of apps for Pinterest content creators.
You can use Tailwind to design, plan, and schedule all your Pinterest content for a week in less than 30 minutes!
The thing about Pinterest is that you have to pin consistently.
Ideally, you should pin at least 3 pins a day. Additionally, for every 3 pins of your own that you pin, you should pin 4 other relevant pins from 3rd parties i.e. other users on Pinterest.
If you use the Pinterest manual pinning strategy, you may soon find it to be a little tedious and time-consuming to do this and keep track of what you have pinned.
With Tailwind, you can automate this and focus on creating more content for your blog.
Using the Tailwind Pinterest strategy is ultimately going to save you plenty of time and energy!
Note- Please don’t think you can’t succeed without Tailwind! I have tried both with and without and you can still be successful without it, it just takes up more time, that’s all.
Step 8: Join Group Boards And Communities
Pinterest works on the basis of interacting with and repinning pins. It is a community effort.
As such, joining group boards and Pinterest communities will bolster your Pinterest strategy for your blog.
Group boards are essentially a collection of pins from different users on Pinterest.
You can apply to join group boards and collaborate with the users by pinning your pins to the board.
This gives you the advantage of exposing your blog and content to a whole new audience who are members of this board. And if they repin your post on their own boards, that just expands your exposure even more!
Tailwind also has its own Pinterest Communities that work in a similar fashion.
These communities allow you to collaborate with fellow members to reach new audiences. You are almost guaranteed to see an increase in repins and traffic once you join them!
Step 9: Create Your Own Group Boards
Why be a follower when you can be a leader!
When people carry out a search on Pinterest, the algorithm canvasses Pinterest boards as well as individual pins and displays them in the search results.
To increase the range of your audience, create your own group board based on your niche and encourage others to pin relevant pins on this board.
Voila! You have your own Pinterest community!
Step 10: Use Pinterest Analytics
This is one of the Pinterest tools that are available only on Pinterest business accounts.
The analytics will tell you how well your pins are doing. It also gives you stats on which pins are being saved and clicked on the most.
If you notice that some of your pins are on a downward trend, you can quickly reset and recalibrate your pinning strategy.
This is common with older pins. If you notice that these pins are driving less traffic to your blog, then you can create a new pin with a fresh look for the same post.
Once you’re done with that, pin it on your relevant Pinterest boards. You will likely see an increase in traffic from this in about a couple of days. It’s as easy as that!
